Bem Söröző és Étterem, is on the Buda side of the Danube, just two minutes south of Margit Hid (Margaret Bridge) on foot. It’s as much a bar as it is a restaurant, with a casual, no-frills, pub-like atmosphere. The room to the right houses the bar and several large wooden booths, with decorative leather-backed seats, each comfortably seating eight. The corner by the entrance serves best as a drinking area, while a more formal restaurant area lies to the left, isolated by a wooden screen, which displays several German coats of arms.
The décor is minimalist. The red-brick walls are decorated only with brewery advertising and a few decorative or old-fashioned items. A “Gösser” lamp hangs above each table. The menu offers a moderate and unpretentious selection of traditional meat and fish dishes, at good prices; sides ordered separately. The waiters are remarkably friendly and, despite the riverside location, the clientele is largely Hungarian.
